December could feel the muscles in her stomach tighten. By instinct and for the pain she felt she lay down in a grove of trees. It was time the new heir for the herd would be here soon. She had been waiting for this moment since she had mated with Trigger, their foal. It was going to be beautiful she knew it. Most likely a grey paint taking colors from both of it’s parents her dark grey coloring and Trigger’s paint markings that she loved so much. December let out a loud call for her mate she needed him now more than ever. He couldn't miss this not the first foal and heir. She let out another call not for her mate but out of pain. She looked over and saw the little ones nose and front hooves. At the moment she couldn't tell what color it was yet but she was a happy as she could ever be. December was growing a little impatient where was Trigger at. He couldn't miss this not for the world he just couldn't. December loved him more than anything else in the world. She knew many mares didn’t like having their mates around when they had the foals but she was different she needed Trigger there with her right now.
With a few more contractions the foal was out. “Come on little one stand up.” She said getting herself up. The little colt gave her a puzzled look and tried to stand up on its wobbly legs only to fall against his mother’s leg. “Try again.” December licked his head. After about three more tries the colt got up, “Mamma?” “Yes little one I’m your Mamma.” She nuzzled him gently. A few birds took off behind them in a near by tree and the colt darted under his mother. “They won’t hurt you it’s just a few birds.” December reassured her son. Soon enough the colt regained his courage. A toad hopped by about a foot from December and the foal leaned his head down to sniff it. He lost intrest in it soon enough and turned back to his mother and started to suckel. December jumpped a bit at first she was sore that was for sure but after a while she got used to it. "I wonder where Trigger is he surly heard me calling." she said to herself.
